Belgian Dark Ale

This style captures darker-hued Belgian-style ales that really aren’t either a Dubbel or Belgian Strong Dark Ale. These Belgian Dark Ales range in color from amber to dark mahogany to brown. The words “amber” or “bruin” or “brune” (brown) may appear on the label. As with the color range, aromas and flavors of this style run the gamut – some of these Belgian Dark Ales are yeasty and dry, while others are more malty and sweet. Today, some of the most popular examples of this Belgian-style ale come from New World craft brewers.
