Guide to Beer

Faro

A blended Lambic with the addition of dark Belgian candi sugar, Faro is commonly the sweetest Lambic style that does not have fruit added. Generally deep amber to mahogany brown in color, a sweet, fruity character predominates amid elements of characteristic tart, sour, barnyard, horsey or earthy Lambic nature. Varying degrees of sweet and sour are experienced across Faro offerings, with some very sweet and others with more sourness breaking through the sweetness. Some brewers add spices such as coriander and orange peel for additional flavor.
