This 300-mile-long appellation runs along the Pacific coast and covers counties from the San Francisco Bay area all the way down to Santa Barbara County. The cooling and moderating effect of the ocean on air temperatures has a major impact on the growing conditions of the entire region. Over the past decade many new wine growers and subregions have been carved out of the large Central Coast area.
