Viña Siegel (San Elias)
Alberto Siegel, the son of a Chilean viticulturist, grew up among grape vines. After high school, Alberto worked in German wineries before returning to Chile in 1971 to work for Bayer. His position with the German conglomerate was to sell fertilizers to farm owners in the Colchagua area, many of whom were grape growers. Soon he began to work as a broker for the grape growers, selling wine and grapes to large Chilean wineries.
Around the same time, in 1980, Alberto and his father began to plant vineyards in Colchagua and Viña Siegel was born, with a state-of-the-art winery soon following. At first, the production was sold to industry giants such as Concha y Toro and Santa Rita. In 1997, Alberto began bottling wine from Viña Siegel’s 1,300 acres of vines under the San Elias label for its Central Valley wines and under the Crucero label for its Colchagua Valley wines.
San Elias is a great introduction to the wines of Chile, produced from careful grape selection and a very delicate vinification process. Fresh and easy drinking, these wines are perfect for any occasion.
