Entre-Deux-Mers
In the next area, it is important to discuss the winegrowing region located between the Garonne and Dordogne Rivers. The largest appellation here is Entre-Deux-Mers (
ahn-truh duh merr), which literally translates into “between two seas.” With approximately 7,400 acres, it's the largest subdistrict within
Bordeaux. Its undulating hills make it one of the most beautiful as well. The Entre-Deux-Mers AC applies only to
white wines made from
Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle. The white wines produced here are dry and crisp with citrus notes and hints of grassiness.
Red wines produced from the Entre-Deux-Mers region are sold as Bordeaux AC or Bordeaux Supérieur AC. The delicious wines of Château Bonnet are some of the most respected in this region.
