The La Mancha DO is Spain’s, as well as Europe’s, largest designated quality-wine area. Ninety percent of it 420,000 acres of vineyards is planted with Airén. Thanks to new modern equipment and winemaking techniques, La Mancha is producing light, crisp, fruity, aromatic white wines. The small amount of red wine production from this area comes chiefly from the Cencibel (Tempranillo) grape.
