This being my first foray into the drink of my ancestors, I think it turned out rather well! Do NOT buy if you do not like sweet alcohol. It was sweet but not overly so (did not taste like candy). Seeing as I don't normally like alcohol of any kind, the fact that I liked this says a lot. I only tried it cold and at room temperature. I know mead can be served warm (this one actually came with it's own spices) but that does not appeal to me.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by SOMERSET I LOVE This Mead!
I'll start out by saying that I am not a fan of wine. This is utter sacrilege coming from an Italian/Spaniard/French person. But I will drink - and completely enjoy - a nice chilled cup of Chaucer's. It's sweet, yes, but not overly so; and it has a nice, delightfully dry finish that I quite appreciate. I have tried other brands and other types of mead. One came from an organic farm in Wisconsin and was so sweet and heavily honey-flavored that I almost felt like I was drinking pure, watered-down honey. Another unholy concoction imported from Ireland was carbonated (blech!) and berry flavored with such an odd aftertaste that I finally just poured it down the drain. I often wondered if the Irish brewers decided to intentionally create some completely horrid swill and send it Statewide as a joke to see how many bottles they could actually unload before someone noticed mead isn't supposed to resemble bitter soda pop. Anyway, Chaucer's may not be the most expensive, but it is the smoothest, most flavorful and most consistent brand I've tasted. I continue to try other brands, and I've even enjoyed a few, but Chaucer's remains my favorite.

This wine is very very good. I'm not a wine fan but this bottle has changed my mind. Not too sweet or bitter. Two thumbs up
