Rated 4 out of 5Â by TheConsumersCorner Very smooth.
I tried quite a few different whiskeys while trying to find my perfect brand (that's in my price range) and Col. Lee is it. Granted, it doesn't have the amazingly complex flavors of some really pricey brands, but the flavors it does have go down very smoothly. Of course it mixes well, but is also tastes great with a splash of H2O, or poured over some ice cubes for sipping.
I really enjoyed Ezra Brooks, and if they were at the exact same price point, I'd be flipping a lot of coins in the bourbon section. But I'll take the Col every time at $15 a 1.75.
Looks classy in my decanter as well. I'd give it 5 stars if not for the ugly plastic bottle.

I like to drink my bourbon straight. I usually by the very expensive brands for that smooth taste. The sales person recommended Colonel Lee even though it's cost was very low. I was surprised by it's smoothness. I recommend Colonel Lee to all bourbon drinkers who like it neat.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by AZgunslinger Amazing bourbon for the $$$
I read the other reviews saying that it lacks depth...honestly, what did you expect? If you want a bourbon with depth and character, spend the money it takes to get it. Colonel Lee gives you a straight-forward, smooth taste that you just can't beat at that price point. It isn't harsh and it finishes clean. It's perfect for mixing and it actually is enjoyable over ice. Just don't expect a lot of complexity (leather, spice, caramel) and you won't be disappointed. I recommend giving it a shot for your every day bourbon. And did I mention that it's aged 8 years?

Let me say that this is a good bourbon for the price, but the store assistant told me it was comparable to very high quality bourbons such as makers mark, etc. I find it somewhat harsh straight or with water and would rank it well below Old Grandad or Jim Beam While Label. It mixes nicely for a sour or with ginger ale, but I don't have that kind of drink often so it mostly just sits in my cabinet while my MM, OGD, Beam, or multiple Irish Whiskies all disappear.

I like this as much as Jim Beam and for a lot less money.

Rated 3 out of 5Â by matt7591 Surprised by the high ratings - it's good however
Well I love Total Wine so I'm not going to write a scathing review. But I'm surprised that this bourbon gets such high ratings. This bourbon is good as a budget option. The actual flavor of the bourbon is very one dimensional. It doesn't have the depth of some of the better bourbons like Elijah Craig or Bulleit. A good bourbon will have very easily noticed depth of flavor from aging, the barrel it was stored in and other characteristics. While it does not have extraordinary depth, it is however, smooth!
But it is better than a lot of cheap hooches. For instance, it is significantly better than Rebel Yell, and I'd even say better than the low end Jim Beams.
This bourbon may appeal to those who like yuppy bourbon like Maker's Mark. They are the ones that claim to "take the devil out of bourbon". Well the devil is part of bourbon. I never much liked MM, either.
For those who would criticize my review to the effect of "what do you want for $14", etc, that is fine but there are flavorable options for whiskeys including Scoresby and even Early Times which are quite serviceable at their price point. So there are many options at this price - it is not an issue of begging for scraps.
I think that this Colonel Lee bourbon is a great option for people at the price point it is offered but for those who appreciate a fine dram, this will be smooth, but lack depth.

Rated 5 out of 5Â by Rick61 Excellent unknown Bourbon
I usually buy Makers Mark or Jack Daniels but Colonel Lee Bourbon is excellent. It is also alot less expensive. I always drink bourbon straight and this is great. Makers Mark is more potent and tastes a little better but I am going to make this my go to Bourbon.

Rated 4 out of 5Â by AlixG A well-crafted, honest bourbon
After having been disappointed with big-name (and accordingly-priced) bourbons, I thought that I'd give Colonel Lee a try. If it didn't work out, I simply planned to use it as a final wash when cleaning out my whiskey decanters and flasks. ... But what a pleasant surprise it was to learn that this plastic-bottled bourbon is top-shelf quality. Notes of caramel and sweetness are subtly balanced, and smooth. I'm a scotch and bourbon drinker, and when in bourbon mode, I sip this with pleasure.
Final note: I don't trust the plastic, so I suggest transferring to a crystal decanter.
