Dona Paula Los Cardos Malbec

Rated 4 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by well balanced I am always looking for a good cheap wine. I bought this based on the reviews on this website, so my expectations were perhaps higher than they should have been. This wine has rather high alcohol (14%), but it is so well balanced that the alcohol is not noticeable. Nice and inviting in the nose, it is cozy and dark as opposed to reds that are bright and fruity. Very smooth and mellow. Perhaps a good wine for people who don't normally like red wines. Even though this wine is very nice and very easy to drink, I wasn't as smitten with it as was the other reviewer. I like wines that have a distinguishing characteristic, however I didn't think this wine had enough to distinguish it from others. A word about how I use these five star ratings - I recognize that people have wildly different tastes, and I recognize that there are many different styles of winemaking for each variety of grape. I also recognize that most bottles of wine have been well crafted. That said, it is unlikely that we will encounter a truly bad bottle of bad wine, but it is inevitable that we will encounter wines that are not to our taste. Just because I don't like a wine does not mean it is a bad wine - it will appeal to someone. When I give a wine five stars, it means that I liked it, it met my expectations, and I will buy it again. If a wine does not meet my expectations, yet seems to be well made, I will probably give it three stars, and explain why the wine was not as I expected. I will also leave a comment to help you determine if the wine will appeal to your taste. November 17, 2013

Elegant, Raspberry, Cherry, Full-bodied

Lujan de Cuyo, Argentina - On the nose it opens with notes of red berries and plum, intermixed with notes of spice, black pepper, mint and graphite. On the palate, the wine is soft and fresh, full-bodied and very delightful.
