Like someone else who wrote a review, I also discovered Rogue brewery on a road trip up the coast of Oregon. I am glad I did. The Ales made by Rogue are like no other. To me, Dead Guy Ale is the very best ale available in the US. Also, there is a big difference between the 'little' bottles of this fine ale and the 64oz bottle. Get the big bottle only. The Shakespear Stout is also wonderful. Rogue's Spruce Gin is also very good. These products are underrated on this site. All of these products have won national and international awards.

Easy to see why this brew has won in national competition. Although the color is a nice golden hue it has a surprisingly rich, smooth flavor that you might think you'd find in a brown ale. In fact there is a mild maltiness to the flavor although not overwhelming. I was surprised the color wasn't a little darker. If you like a smooth clean brew full of flavor without the overt hopiness found in so many ales this just might be the perfect ale for you.

I first 'stumbled' into the small Rogue brewery in the coastal fishing village of Newport,OR. Drank "Dead Mans Ale" with lunch, and was so impressed that I bought a half dozen tall bottles. Rogue was not in NC stores at the time. It always remains my top favorite, most closely comparable to excellent German lager. About 6 years ago I finally found it in NC, which made me very happy.

Excellent brew. One of my go to ales whenever I find it available on tap. Not as highly rated as it should be as Advocate is definitely tilted towards IPA style. If you like a malty, maibock style ale, try Dead Guy.
