This is what I drank 20 years ago in school because it was the cheap local beer. It was an alternative to Bush or Miller for a few pennies more and a step up from Pearl or Lone Star (IMO). Now it is a craft beer? Not a chance, still the same product.
Don't believe the tall Texas tales. It's a cheap, dark beer. A bit malty and sweet but not much complexity. With all the fantastic real craft brews out there today, I can't think of any reason to drink this.

For a mass produced beer, this is quality stuff. I would not put this in the category of a microbrew yet it is close. It is dark with real flavor yet simple. This beer is a very good value, easy to drink and thirst quenching. This is a good beer to stock at a party where people want to drink real beer yet buying it won't bust your bank account.

This is an everyday 'drinkable' German beer like you would find in your local gasthaus. It is not complex with subtile hints of blah-blah-blah. It is the kind of beer you drink by the stein with friends. (Buy it in cans ans support recycling)

Excellent Bock Beer, smooth, refreshing, never bitter, most pleasurable dark brew I've found. This great little small town, Shiner, Texas brewery always produces a consistent excellent quality brew.

Shiner Bock is mild and balanced. A much better choice than the big brews.

I'd go 2.5 stars if I could. I love the Shiner story and the fact that they are really involved with sponsoring local events and the whole Texas promotion thing, but I have tried most of their beers and they are pretty much middle of the road bland. Better than most of the mega factory brews, but not really a craft brew. Sorry fellow Texans, but not anywhere near a recommendation here.
