Four Peaks Brewing Co.

“We are a close-knit crew of beer enthusiasts who got tired of paying for beer,” say the founders of Four Peaks Brewing Co. All right, seriously: Their primary goal is to “craft exceptional beer to be able to share it with good people.”

The Tempe, Ariz.-based brewery produces a wide array of beers in an old Mission Revival-style brick building built in 1892 as a creamery used to house cows. The building is now also home to a brewpub serving pub fare along with Four Peaks beer.

Four Peaks mills its malt “to expose its starchy centers” and then adds specialty malts to impart a variety of colors and flavors in its many brews. Among them are Four Peaks Sunbru (Kölsch), Arizona Peach Ale, Hop Knot IPA, 8th Street Pale Ale, Hefeweizen and Kilt Lifter (Scottish Ale).

Kilt Lifter, Four Peaks’ flagship brew, was the 2009 Great American Beer Festival Silver Medal-winning Scottish-style Ale, with a flavorful yet drinkable 6 percent ABV. Made in the tradition of great strong ales from Scotland, Kilt Lifter is the beer that made Four Peaks famous.
