Looking for fun, affordable decorations to liven up your holiday parties? DIY Christmas crafts are the way to go. Let your love of wine shine through this holiday season with these five Christmas craft ideas made with old wine bottles and corks.

1. Christmas Light Wine Bottle Decorations

Instead of just stringing Christmas lights around the home, pile them into wine bottles for an eye-catching party decoration.

What You Need:

  • An empty wine bottle
  • Duct tape
  • A 5/8-inch diamond hole saw
  • A 10-foot string of Christmas lights

Begin by washing and removing labels from the wine bottle, and place a strip of duct tape on one side of bottle near the base. Using the diamond hole saw, cut into the glass at the center of the tape at a 45-degree angle before switching to 90 degrees to finish drilling the hole. After removing the tape, feed the string of Christmas lights through the hole until only the power plug remains. Display the lamp so the cord rests in the back, and if desired, repeat the process for several more bottle lamps to create a festive atmosphere for any holiday get-together.

2. Wine Cork Wreaths

Add a merry, wine-themed touch to your front door with a cork wreath.

What You Need:

  • A 16-inch foam or straw wreath ring
  • Around 200 corks
  • A hot glue gun
  • Ribbons and other decorations

Use the hot glue gun to attach rows of corks along the foam or straw ring until you cover the entire base. Next, glue another layer of corks at random angles atop the existing cork rows for a more natural effect. Decorate the finished wreath with ribbons, bows or glue-on decorations for a finished craft that's sure to make guests feel welcome.

3. Wine Bottle Candle Holders

What You Need:

  • Empty wine bottles
  • Candle sticks
  • Ribbons or other decorations

Wash the bottles, remove any labels and dry the glass. Fit the base of a candle into the mouth of each bottle, and display the wine candles where they have little danger of being knocked over by guests. For some extra holiday cheer, paint snowflakes on the bottles or tie a holiday ribbon on the neck of each.

4. Wine Cork Christmas Trees

Whether you need some wine-themed centerpieces or snack table decor, these cute wine cork trees are sure to impress.

What You Need:

  • 11 or more wine corks
  • A hot glue gun
  • Spray paint
  • Holiday ribbons

Using your hot glue gun, glue together enough corks to create a round base platform with all corks standing vertically. Complete the same process for a slightly smaller platform that you can then glue atop the base. Repeat with increasingly smaller platforms until you can glue a single cork to the top of your tree. You can choose to leave the corks their natural color or spray-paint the entire tree with green, silver or gold. Once the paint dries, tie a festive holiday ribbon at the base of each tower, and display the Christmas tree for your next party.

5. Wine Cork Christmas Ornaments

These wine cork Christmas crafts are perfect for party favors or just hanging on your Christmas tree, and you can use the same basic ornament structure for characters such as angels, Santas, snowmen and penguins.

What You Need:

  • A wine cork
  • A thin ribbon for hanging
  • A small foam sphere
  • Acrylic paints
  • Decorative accessories to complete your character

Attach the foam sphere to the cork with craft glue to act as a head and body, and paint the face and features of your chosen holiday character. Once the paint dries, cut a small length of ribbon, and glue the ends to each side of the body. Glue on any accessories, such as a Santa hat or a wide, golden ribbon tied in a bow for an angel. When the glue dries, your ornament is ready to hang.

Put together your DIY Christmas crafts at least a day before your holiday party to allow paint and glue plenty of time to dry, and place your new decor in prominent places for a healthy dose of holiday cheer. You can also buy a few bottles of wine to wrap in paper and bows to give to your guests, keeping in line with your wine-loving decor theme.
