Toro

This DO is located northwest of Ribera del Duero and is gaining international popularity for flavorful red wines made from Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo).

The town of Toro evokes images of Spain’s medieval heritage. Ruined castles, ancient bridges and vineyards punctuate the dusty Castillian plains. The stunning Romanesque Church of Saint Mary, which dates back to the 12th century, serves as the center of this modest township.

The centuries-old town of Toro lends its name to the DO wine region of Toro, which lies northwest of the well-known Ribera del Duero. Once overlooked, Toro has recently achieved new heights of fame thanks to robust and flavorful reds made with the Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) grape variety. With prices continuing to rise exponentially in the neighboring Ribera del Duero, many have turned to Toro to find wines that boast tremendous quality and value.
