Yecla

One of Spain's smallest DOs, Yecla is known for complex red wines made from the Monastrell grape.

Established as a DO in 1975, Yecla's specialty is Monastrell, which flourishes in the continental climate and high-altitude vineyards of southeastern Spain. Named after the town that sits at its center, Yecla is one of Spain's smallest wine-growing regions and is commonly known for producing dark, fruit-forward Monastrell wines that are complex, well-structured and typically barrell-aged, a distinct evolution from the much lighter red wines that came from this region decades ago.
