Tullamore D.E.W. Irish Whiskey
What’s in a name? Sometimes it’s not much. In the case of Tullamore D.E.W., it’s the story of a place, its people and its spirit — and all of it is true. Our founder stepped onto the scene in 1864, which brings us to the D.E.W. in our name, it is neither Gaelic in origin, nor a reference to the grass-top condensation so common to Ireland's green lands.
D.E.W. stands for Daniel Edmund Williams, the ultimate self-made man. Daniel was master distiller and right-hand man to the former distillery’s owner, Capt. Bernard Daly — all before the age of 25. A pioneer and visionary, as distillery manager, Daniel was credited with bringing electricity, the telephone and the motor vehicle to the town of Tullamore.
However, his most lasting legacy is the way he perfected his whiskey and brought revolutionary craftsmanship to Tullamore’s truest spirit.
To this day, the Tullamore distillery still follows Daniel E. Williams’s favored Irish tradition of distilling three times. It’s more expensive, and it takes longer but you will notice it in the taste, and be thankful upon the finish.
