Lalande-de-Pomerol is a satellite commune of only 2,800 acres of vineyards just north of Pomerol on Bordeaux’s Right Bank. The vineyards, which produce mostly Merlot and Cabernet Franc for red wines, are planted on relatively light, gravelly, sandy soils.
Lalande-de-Pomerol wines possess most qualities of those from Pomerol, at a fraction of the price. They are produced to the same high standards, but mature faster and are slightly lighter-bodied than most Pomerol wines, while offering similar notes of red fruits and plums.
