Mercurey

Mercurey is the best-known village of Burgundy's Côte Chalonnaise. Its vineyards line gently sloping hillsides that extend from the nearby Cote d’Or, to the north. Mercurey wines are predominantly red, made from Pinot Noir. A small percentage of white wines are made from Chardonnay.

Mercurey red wines offer elegant fruit flavors of cherry and plum, with nuances of earth and smoke. Velvety and smooth on the palate with soft tannins, Mercurey reds are a fine complement to pâtés, pork and lighter red-meat entrees. Mercurey white wines are crisp and elegant, with mineral aromas and flavors of apple, pear and butter. These pair beautifully with veal and chicken.

Often overlooked in favor of more famous appellations to the north, Mercurey produces excellent wines that can offer great value in Burgundy.
