Touraine

Touraine wines represent many of the varieties for which the Loire is treasured: Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Franc, among others.

Chenin Blanc is used in the Touraine appellation of Vouvray to make wines that may be crisp and dry, or dripping with honeyed sweetness. The best Sauvignon Blancs of Touraine, filled with citrus and herbal flavors, are likewise on par with that of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé, made in the neighboring Centre-Loire region.

The appellation of Chinon produces a wonderful red wine of Cabernet Franc. When aged in oak, good vintages of this wine can rival the depth and complexity of fine Bordeaux. Even everyday Chinon wines are a pleasure: Alive with the flavors and aromas of strawberries and raspberries, they are best served slightly chilled.
