Madiran

Madiran is home to Tannat, a lesser-known grape that produces powerful, aromatic, and age-worthy wines.

At the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains, the Madiran appellation produces powerful and aromatic red wines made with the Tannat grape. For many years, Madiran wines were made almost entirely from Tannat, and needed long bottle aging before they were even approachable. Today, many winemakers blend Tannat with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc (known in the area as Bouchy) so that the wines, while still richly flavored, offer fresh fruit notes and silky tannins and are made to be enjoyed young.
