The red grape variety Carignan grows vigorously in the south of France, where it makes deep-colored wines with high tannins – all of which make Carignan a useful blending grape.
In the Rhône Valley, and further south in the Languedoc and Roussillon regions, Carignan may be included in the region’s red blended wines.
