The winemaking traditions of Spain’s Navarra region are evolving, much to the benefit of wine lovers around the world. For decades, Navarra, near Pamplona in north-central Spain, was chiefly a source of simple rosés produced on the hot, flat plains along the Ebro River. Now, in addition to the traditional Navarro rosé, known as Rosado, many of Navarra’s winemakers are producing great, Rioja-influenced red wines from native Tempranillo and Garnacha grapes. They’ve also recently planted numerous international varieties, including Cabernet, Merlot and Chardonnay, to use in fresh, modern wines.
