Wine Enthusiast -Russian River Valley, CA- ""From the folks at Chalk Hill Winery, this is named for a pioneering homestead once at the site. With grapes from the producer's own Trenton Road Vineyard, this tastes of cherry cola and vanilla, with soft, smoothly robust tannins and a lasting note of coffee.""
Courtney is truly a hands-on winemaker. She turned a love of geology--and digging in the dirt—into a passion for the Chalk Hill centuries-old-heritage and wines. Courtney’s Latimer Ranch is located in the Russian River Valley where the cool climates and ocean breezes make for ideal conditions to grow grapes in the traditional style of Burgundy. Yes, that Burgundy. And that delicious.
The Russian River Valley extends just south of the town of Healdsburg to the San Pablo Bay in the west. It has the coolest climate of all the regions in Sonoma because of the fog traveling up the Russian River from the ocean. The climate makes the Russian River Valley prime Chardonnay and Pinot Noir country. Both grape varieties thrive here with a lush, rich intensity of fruit flavors rarely found in other places. The cooler climate creates the ideal conditions to produce Chardonnay and Pinot Noir with more intense forward fruit, lovely crispness and acidity with great balance and length. This Russian River Valley appellation is truly one of the shining stars of Sonoma.
