Régnié was the most recent Beaujolais village to acquire the designation Cru Beaujolais, one of those recognized as producing the most distinctive wine in the Beaujolais region, in 1988. Régnié wines vary in style depending on precisely where the Gamay grapes making them are grown. Those produced in the northern and eastern parts of the Régnié appellation, adjacent to Morgon, are similarly big and rich in style. In the southern portion, Régnié wines are light and fruity, more like the reds of Brouilly.
