What is Argentinian wine?

Argentinian wine is any wine that is grown and produced in Argentina. The country may be most famous for its Malbec (which is more or less synonymous with all Argentinian or Argentina red wine). Still, there is plenty of remarkable Argentinian or Argentina white wine to be discovered, too. From Mendoza to Patagonia and even further afield, Argentina is a diverse, exciting wine-producing country.

What wine is Argentina known for?

Unquestionably, it's Malbec that Argentina's most well-known for, but increasingly, it is gaining respect for its Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Pinot Noir, in addition to some excellent white wine, too. When people think of Argentina, wine is one of the first things that comes to mind, which is a testament to the quality of what is being grown and produced there.

What are the different wine-producing regions in Argentina?

There are several wine-producing regions in Argentina. Mendoza is the most famous, especially for its higher-altitude Malbecs. But other regions, like Patagonia, La Rioja, and San Juan are increasingly making a mark.

What is the most planted white grape in Argentina?

Torrontés, an aromatically complex grape, is the most widely planted white grape variety grown in Argentina. It often reminds tasters of peaches, apricots, flowers, and honey.

In 2017, the last year for which statistics are available, Argentina produced 118,000,000 liters of wine. In other words, a whole lot!

Why is Malbec so popular in Argentina?

Malbec is so popular in Argentina because it grows brilliantly in the country's mountainous terrain, especially in and around the region of Mendoza. Because of the range of styles that it can be produced in, at all price points, it has gained a passionate audience both domestically and around the world. Also, Argentina grows some of the best beef cattle in the world, and the pairing of Malbec and steak is amazing.
