The elegant red wines of Savigny-lès-Beaune, made from Pinot Noir grown in vineyards north of the town of Beaune, are medium-bodied and filled with notes of red and black fruits. The appellation includes 22 Premier Cru sites noted for the production of superior wines.
Hundreds of years ago, Savigny-lès-Beaune was a hub for Burgundy’s nobility and clergy. It was also apparently a hotbed of wine marketing as early as 1703. An engraved stone set into the local chateau, widely quoted, notes that “The wines of Savigny are nourishing, theological and keep death at bay.”
