Alto Adige

Alto Adige wines include some of the best Pinot Grigio in Italy. The upper portion of the Trentino-Alto Adige region, in northeastern Italy just south of the Austrian border, Alto Adige is Italy’s northernmost wine region. White grapes grown on the steep and chilly Alpine slopes produce zesty, complex wines. A native red grape, Lagrein, is grown on the region’s warmer hillsides and makes elegant and concentrated wines.

A bilingual region known to some as South Tyrol or Südtirol, Alto Adige maintains strong ties to Austria and that country’s winemaking traditions, so it’s a source of high-quality Riesling, Gewurztraminer and other Austrian-style wines as well as Italian varieties.
